The Eastside is Olympia's oldest intact neighborhood after downtown: bungalows on San Francisco Avenue, foursquares near Bigelow, postwar boxes around Lions Park and along Puget Street. Many still have the laundry where the builder put it, down a tight wooden stair that turns at the bottom, and many still have a fuse panel or a mixed bag of two-prong and three-prong outlets. Kitchens are small and the range often sits in the same spot it did in 1955, on wiring nobody sized for a modern glass-top. Water is city supply, moderately hard, on LOTT sewer, with Puget Sound Energy gas to the houses that were piped and electric everything for the rest.
Old houses ask different questions of an appliance. A dryer that runs cool may have a good element and one dead leg on a worn breaker. A washer that trips the GFCI may be fine while the outlet is the trouble. We check the circuit before condemning the machine, then explain the difference. We charge $99 to find the fault, which includes the testing, a plain-English account of which part quit, and a written repair figure. Go forward and the quoted figure already holds that $99 rather than adding it on top. Stop there and $99 is your entire cost. Every invoice shows its warranty term in print, and parts we order return with us on our schedule.

The dryer tumbled but came out cold. In the basement panel one leg of the double-pole breaker read dead, so the motor had 120 volts and the element had nothing. The breaker was hot to the touch and discolored. We told the owner to call an electrician for the panel, checked the element and thermostats for the day the power came back, and did not sell a part she did not need.
A glass-top range where two burners on the left side died together. Both ran through the same infinite switch block, and the block had a scorched terminal from a loose crimp. We replaced the switch assembly and the wire harness section, tested every burner to temperature, and reset the anti-tip bracket that had never been screwed in.
A top-loader that filled, agitated and then sat silent with a tub full of water. The lid switch tested open, a common failure on that platform. We replaced it and, while the cabinet was off, cleared a drain hose that had folded against the wall. The property manager approved by text and received the emailed invoice, and the tenant had clothes drying that night.
Warm on top, freezer fine, a soft click every few minutes from the back. The evaporator fan sat locked in ice; the defrost thermostat had failed closed. We thawed the coil, replaced the thermostat and the fan motor that had been straining against the ice, and pulled a sheet of dog hair off the condenser while the back was open.

If a machine ever does have to move, we bring an appliance dolly and straps and protect the treads on the way.
Yes, and we test the circuit before blaming the range. A dead cooktop half or a cool oven is sometimes a failed breaker leg rather than a failed appliance, and you will hear which one it is. When the panel needs an electrician, we say so plainly and leave the appliance ready for when the power is right.
Everything you needed to make that decision: the testing, a straightforward account of what broke, and a written repair figure to weigh against a replacement. Stopping there means $99 is the complete charge. Saying yes means that $99 is treated as part of the repair total, not an extra line.
Phone before noon, Monday through Friday, about a fridge or freezer that quit cooling and we hold a same-day slot for it. The shop is the next neighborhood over, just across the Lacey line on Woodland Square Loop, so those calls usually land in the early afternoon. Other machines are booked inside the week.
