Whirlpool has sold more washers into Thurston County than any other name, from the belt-drive top loaders in 1970s Division Street ramblers to the Cabrio and Duet machines of the last fifteen years.
Weekdays 7:30–5:30 · Saturday 9–1 · closed Sunday · Woodland Square Loop, at the Olympia–Lacey line

The Whirlpool washer in your house could be one of three quite different machines. If it is a Cabrio top loader from the late 2000s onward, the tub rides on a bearing that Whirlpool set into the outer tub, and when that bearing goes the spin cycle announces itself to the whole street. If it is a newer VMW top loader with the low-profile agitator, the shifter that switches between agitate and spin is the usual suspect. And if it is a Duet front loader, drain pumps and door locks head the list.
We service all three in Olympia, from Governor Stevens to Hunter Point, and we tell owners early which repairs are worth it. A Cabrio bearing is a real job; a VMW shifter is an hour.
The spin cycle roars, louder week by week, sometimes with a rust ring on white loads or an oily smear under the machine. That is the Cabrio bearing, and the seal above it has already failed. The repair means pulling the drum and pressing new bearings into the outer tub, or fitting a tub with bearings preinstalled. We quote it straight and let you weigh it against the machine's age.
The washer fills and agitates, then sits there humming instead of spinning, or it clicks a few times and throws F7E1 or F7E5. The shifter actuator under the tub moves a splutch between agitate and spin, and its small gear and sensor wear out. A common, modest repair on VMW machines; we usually have the part along and check the drive hub and capacitor while the machine is tipped.
The lid lock light blinks, the cycle will not start, or the lid stays locked after the wash ends. Whirlpool's lid lock assembly has a magnetic sensor and a solenoid, and either fails, but so does a lid striker bent by someone leaning on it. We test the lock in diagnostic mode, inspect the striker, and fit the new assembly only when the old one has truly quit.
F8E1 says the tub took too long to fill. In the city the cause is usually a valve; on the wells around Black Lake and Delphi the inlet screens choke with iron sediment first. We clear the screens, measure flow at the hose, and test the inlet valve solenoids. A cold-only fill points at one valve coil, and we replace the valve assembly rather than nurse a single coil along.
F9E1 on a top loader or F21 on a Duet means the tub was still holding water when the drain timer ran out. Duet pump filters catch coins and socks; top loaders have no filter and jam the impeller directly. We clear or renew the pump, look for a sagging hose that traps water, and confirm the standpipe is tall enough to stop siphoning.
The classic Whirlpool direct-drive top loader, still going in many Eastside basements, has a rubber motor coupler between motor and transmission that shears after twenty years of loads. The tub fills, the motor hums, nothing moves. It is one of the cheapest washer repairs there is, and we do it gladly. When the transmission or the clutch has gone instead, we say so and talk about the machine's future.
| Code | What it usually means | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| F8E1 | Water is entering too slowly or not at all. Usually the supply valves, screens or an inlet valve; occasionally the pressure sensor. | Check supply and screens, meter the valve coils, and test the pressure sensor hose. |
| F9E1 | The tub did not drain within the allowed time. In most cases a jammed pump or a drain hose problem. | Clear the pump, inspect the hose and standpipe, and renew the pump when its motor is gone. |
| F7E1 | The basket speed sensor is not reporting motion as expected, often a shifter or drive problem rather than the sensor. | Test the shifter actuator and drive hub, then the sensor and its harness. |
| F5E2 | The lid did not lock, or the lock did not report locked. Usually the lock assembly or a misaligned striker. | Test the lock in diagnostic mode, check the striker, and replace the assembly when confirmed. |
A Whirlpool washer visit starts at $99 for the diagnostic, which puts a technician and a meter in front of the machine and ends with the broken part named and a repair figure written on the ticket. Give the go-ahead and that quote already contains the $99; say no thanks and $99 settles everything. Inside our West Olympia ring the drive is never billed.
Weekday service runs 7:30 to 5:30, Saturday until 1, and washer repairs are booked inside the week. The warranty term for parts and labor is printed on the invoice. Should the part be absent from the van, the return trip is ours to arrange and adds nothing to your cost. Rental owners okay the job by text and get the invoice emailed without being on site.
It depends on the machine's age and what else is worn. The parts are moderate but the labor is real, because the whole drum comes out. On a Cabrio under eight years old with a good motor and control it can make sense. On an older one with a rusted tub ring we usually recommend putting the money toward a new washer, and we say so before starting.
Almost never. On the VMW machines the shifter actuator failed to move the splutch into spin; on older direct-drive models the coupler or clutch has let go. Both are ordinary repairs. A motor that spins the agitator is a motor that works, so we look downstream of it first.
It is a built-in test routine entered through a sequence of button presses that shows stored fault codes and lets a technician run each component individually. We use it on every Whirlpool washer, because it separates a lid lock that failed from a control that only thinks it did, and it saves you paying for the wrong part.
Either it never reached full spin because the load was unbalanced or the shocks are soft, or it drained too slowly and cut spin short. Check the pump filter behind the lower kick panel first, since a clogged filter is the most common cause and takes minutes to clear. If the filter is clean, the pump, pressure switch or shocks are next.
Regularly. We arrange access with the tenant, text the owner or manager the repair figure for approval, and email the invoice when the work is done. Codes for gates or lockboxes are kept only until the job closes. A washer in a student house takes a beating, and you will hear plainly from us whether it deserves another round.

The price goes on paper before a screw comes out.
Ring or use the form; a phone photo of the display or the model sticker saves a step. We ring back with an arrival window and text again as the van pulls off Woodland Square Loop.
The technician tests the suspect part with instruments, tells you in plain words what gave out, and writes the repair down as a single price. Your $99 is already inside that number.
Fill valves, defrost heaters, igniters, drum rollers, drain pumps, relays — the things well water, salt air and PSE outages wear out on this shore of the inlet. If we have to order something, the second trip is ours to make, not yours to pay for.
You watch the machine finish a whole cycle, the kick panels and the floor go back the way they were, and the warranty term is typed onto the invoice.
Tell us over the phone. For $99 a technician tests the machine and writes the repair down as one price with that $99 folded in, and the invoice carries the warranty term in print.
