LG built its washers around a motor bolted straight to the drum with no belt in between, and that design is why they run quietly and why an LE code stops one dead.

Walk through the stacked laundry closets of the condos along West Bay Drive or the basements of the Craftsman houses in Wildwood and you will find LG front loaders in a good share of them, many now eight or ten years old. That is exactly the age at which the direct-drive motor's rotor sensor, the drain pump and the door boot start asking for attention, and it is also the age at which owners wonder whether the machine is worth it. Usually it is.
Our approach on an LG is to let the machine talk first. The codes are specific, the test mode is thorough, and a technician who knows how to read both can usually walk in with the right part on the first trip rather than the second.
The cycle stops partway with LE and the drum will not tumble. On the direct-drive motor this is the hall sensor on the rotor misreporting position, a rotor with a cracked magnet, or, less often, a stator winding gone. Overloading brings it on, so we ask about the load. We test sensor and windings at the connector and replace only what reads wrong, usually the sensor and rarely the stator.
The washer stops with water sitting in the tub and OE showing. Before anyone buys a pump we open the filter cap at the bottom, where a sock or a bra tab usually lives, and check for a pinched hose behind the cabinet. A failed pump usually shows a cracked impeller. We fit the new pump and show you the filter so next time is a five-minute job.
IE means the tub did not reach its level in time. Half-open wall valves, screens silted with the iron that Griffin and Summit Lake wells carry, or a pressure sensor convinced the tub is already full will all trigger it. We service the screens, test each inlet coil, and check the air hose to the pressure sensor for a split before blaming the valve.
The TrueBalance top loaders are famous for rebalancing endlessly and then stopping with UE on a normal load. Worn suspension rods are the mechanical cause; a rotor sensor giving bad speed feedback is the electronic one. We replace the rods as a set, calibrate the machine in test mode, and level it for the floor it really sits on, not the one the installer assumed.
A spin that sounds like a jet taxiing, gray or rust marks on light clothes, and a drum that wobbles when pushed are the tub bearings. On LG front loaders the outer tub splits, so the job means pulling the drum, pressing out the bearings and fitting a new seal. We quote it only after confirming the bearings and saying honestly whether the rest of the machine merits it.
Puddles at the front corners and a boot slit near the bottom fold go together, often after a bra wire or a forgotten screw rides the drum. We replace the boot, clean the tub lip it seals against, and check hinge and glass alignment so the new boot is not chewed the same way. With the front open we inspect the hose from boot to pump for cracks.

The LG washer diagnostic runs $99, and it is a real one: meter on the machine, the exact component named, a repair figure committed to paper. Choosing the repair means that $99 is rolled into the quoted total; choosing not to means $99 is the total, full stop. Anywhere inside our circle, drawn around a shop on the Lacey side of Pacific Ave, there is no line for getting there.
Weekdays run 7:30 to 5:30, Saturday until 1. Washers are scheduled inside the week; only a warming refrigerator gets same-day treatment. Property managers with tenants near Evergreen or on the Eastside can okay the work over text; the invoice goes out by email, and any door code we hold is discarded when the job closes. Every invoice carries the printed warranty term, and a shipped-in part means a second trip at no extra cost.
LE is a motor position fault, usually the hall sensor on the direct-drive rotor. Unplugging the machine for half an hour sometimes clears it once, especially after an overloaded wash, and that is a fair thing to try. If it returns, the sensor or rotor has failed and needs replacing, which is a back-panel job we do routinely.
Because the blockage is usually inside the pump filter, not the hose. The filter sits behind a small panel at the lower front, and coins, hairpins and lint collect there. Twist it out over a towel, clean it, and try again. If OE persists with a clean filter, the pump has failed or the pressure sensor is misreading.
On a front loader younger than about eight years with a healthy motor and control, yes, and the result is a machine as quiet as it was new. On an older unit, or one with a corroded spider, the labor pushes toward replacement territory. We measure the play, confirm the bearings, and give you the number before anyone lifts a wrench.
The TrueBalance models developed a reputation for it, and the fix LG issued involves replacement suspension rods plus a control calibration. Bulky single items like a bath mat will still upset any top loader. If yours rocks on every ordinary load, the rods have softened, and replacing all four settles it down.
Yes. LG's ten-year term on the direct-drive motor is one many owners forget, and we would rather say so up front than have you pay for a stator the maker should supply. We are an independent shop and do not process claims, but we check the model and serial and explain what the coverage does and does not include.
