Samsung sells more front loaders around Olympia than almost anyone, and their top-load VRT machines fill the laundry closets of half the rentals near Evergreen. Both platforms are decent, and both have tendencies a technician learns fast: a drain filter nobody has opened since the day of delivery, suspension rods that let the tub thrash on a heavy load, a door lock that tires after a few thousand cycles.
What we do differently is start with the code and the sound. A 5C on a front loader in a Bigelow bungalow whose laundry sits below grade is a different problem from a 5C on a machine on the second floor of a Port-side condo, and the standpipe height tells us which. Bring us the symptom and we bring the likely part.
The cycle stalls with water in the drum and 5C on the panel. Nine times in ten the pump filter behind the little bottom door is packed with lint, coins and a hair tie, and the pump is fine. The tenth time the impeller has cracked or the motor has quit. We clean or replace, test the standpipe for backflow, and show you how to empty that filter yourself.
The drum slams the cabinet on spin and the machine creeps forward. On top loaders it is almost always the four suspension rods, which lose damping and let the tub swing; on front loaders, the shock absorbers or a cracked counterweight mount. We replace the whole set rather than one, since the survivors are not far behind, and level the feet on the sloping floors of old Eastside houses.
The door stays shut at the end of the cycle, or the machine refuses to start and shows dC. The lock assembly holds a solenoid and a switch, either of which can fail, but a sagging hinge that stops the strike seating fools the lock too. We open the door manually, meter the lock, and true the hinge before fitting a new assembly.
Fill takes forever or stops and 4C appears. Inlet screens clogged with grit are common on well water toward Mud Bay and Cooper Point, kinked hoses are common after a move, and a stuck valve solenoid is the third possibility. We pull and clean the screens, check pressure at the tap, and change the valve when the valve rather than the supply is at fault.
The machine spends twenty minutes trying to balance and gives up with UE. A single wet comforter does this to any washer, but when it happens with an ordinary load the suspension or the shocks have softened, or the hall sensor is reporting drum speed badly. We separate load habit from mechanical fault before we replace anything, and we say which it was.
A jet-engine roar on spin, rust streaks on the clothes, or a drum you can lift with one finger point to the rear bearing and seal. On many Samsung front loaders the spider arm behind the drum corrodes too. We pull the tub, replace bearings and seal, and inspect the spider, and on an older machine we tell you before starting whether the job clears the value of the washer.

Usually the cause is habit, not a fault. The door boot traps water and detergent, and leaving the door shut between loads grows mildew. Wipe the fold of the boot, run the self-clean cycle monthly, and pour far less detergent than the cap line suggests. If the boot is stained through or torn, we replace it, and we check the drain path while we are in there.
Yes, some years ago, for top loaders whose lids could detach during high-speed spin. That program was run by the maker, not by us, and most affected machines have been dealt with. If yours is an older VRT top loader and you are unsure, we check the serial against the published range during the diagnostic and tell you plainly.
On a machine under six or seven years old with a sound cabinet and motor, often yes. On an older one, or one where the spider arm has corroded through, the parts and hours climb toward the cost of a replacement washer. We give you the figure before we start and an honest read on which side of the line you are on.
Constantly, especially around Evergreen and the Eastside. We coordinate the time with the tenant, text the owner or manager the figure for approval, and email the invoice when done. Any gate or lockbox code we are given is discarded once the job closes. Nobody has to take the afternoon off work to let us in.
Modern front loaders rebalance and adjust water level repeatedly, so a load that runs long is not always broken. But if the timer counts down and then jumps back up, the machine is fighting an unbalanced drum or a slow drain, and both have mechanical causes we can find. If it is only ever slow with heavy loads, it is likely just doing its job.
